About the Author

John H. Walton (PhD, Hebrew Union College) is professor of Old Testament at Wheaton College Graduate School. He is the author or coauthor of several books, including Chronological and Background Charts of the Old Testament; Ancient Israelite Literature in Its Cultural Context; Covenant: God’s Purpose, God’s Plan; The IVP Bible Background Commentary: Old Testament; and A Survey of the Old Testament.

Janet Nygren is currently the Women’s Ministry Coordinator for the Princeton Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Princeton, NJ.

Karen H. Jobes (PhD, Westminister Theological Seminary) is the Gerald F. Hawthorne Professor of New Testament Greek and Exegesis at Wheaton College and Graduate school in Wheaton, Illinois. The author of several works, she is also involed in Bible translation. She and her husband, Forrest, are members of Immanuel Presbyerian Church, an EPC church in Warrenville, Illinois.

This is a deep book not for a novice or one who does not do serious Bible study. this is for a group of dedciated and serious students willing ot take time to look at culture, the language and views to answer the questions throughout.

Viva le difference

Just loved this book. So easy to read. I related to the suggestions and enjoyed seeing actual photos of real women with not so perfect figures as well as those with perfect ones. So many books on style and clothing are only for the perfect young figure. This one covers all. The authors really know their stuff.

Great Advice!

This book was such fun to read! With much humor, the two authors have greatly simplified the complicated issue of dressing the "less than perfect" figure. My closet is now filled with wardrobe pieces that actually accentuate the positive and "almost" eliminate the negative. I had give up wearing jeans, but now that I've read their wonderful jeans advice I'm back to wearing them again, but in the style that works best for my shape.
And while you're shopping it's easy to remember some of their best advice, as in best T-shirt style for everyone is "V (V-neck) which stands for va-va-voom!" You will love this book!

Empowering!

I recommend this book; it's empowering for women of all ages and body types. Every page has photo's of real women each with their own unique body types .Whether you're a "bellie babe", a "bustie" or both, this book will show you how to make the most of what you've got. We all play negative tapes of ourselves like, "I've got the rig cage of an ox" but what this books shows me is, instead, I can turn that thought into, I'm a "voluptuous Italian woman, a la' Sophia Loren". Create the illusion of a balanced body; the answers, the tips, the tricks, are all here. This book is on my list of gifts to give my girlfriends.

Weak at best..

This is my first K. Ranney book and even though I feel it missed it's mark by more than a few miles, I'll probably....most likely...maybe give her another shot. About the book- - first, I loved the characters in this book. Loved D. Estons sensitivity, knowledge and wisdom. However the two main characters were vastly underdeveloped. KR could've done so much better giving us more insight into Douglas...(do we even know his age? ..or Sarah's for that matter??) Secondly, what's up with the title"..Douglas is no Laird and Sarah basically wasn't sold. Thirdly, the visit to Sarahs' G'father was confusing at best. Are we to believe Sarah's mother had an incestuous affair?!? Can someone enlighten me???? I still don't know!! I've read and reread the chapter where Sarah meets Brendan, (a cousin that looks just like her)...and his father (Michael) is Sarahs' uncle...so...what gives? Major yuck factor there. Even with the weak plot and story line, even with the under developed characters...I guess I'm a sucker for dumb under developed, weak romance drivel because I did find the book somewhat entertaining to a "2 star" degree.

The biggest complaint I have lately with Karen Ranney books is the cheesy covers the publisher puts on them. The one on SOLD TO A LAIRD was almost enough to turn me off but I like Karen Ranney enough not to judge a book by its cover and anyway she's not to blame for it. As to the story, the heroine did not strike me as cold, but rather repressed by her upbringing, and the hero is to die for. Sensitive and a hunk. What more could you want? The author develops the romance and love slowly with none of that unrealistic immediate sex in a closet kind of situation. Ranney makes you feel the love developing and it is romantic, not just lustful. And she writes far better than the majority of romance novelists.

I disagree with the above review. I also love Karen Ranney and there are a few of her books that did not click with me. I really loved this one. The heroine was not cold, she protected herself by reining in her emotions. She was vulnerable and she needed a hero who could break through that shield and get to the person beneath. Douglas was a great hero. The Duke was a bit of a caricature, but it still worked.
