Insightful
By Amazon Customer
This book is extremely insightful, a colossal work produced by Dr. Marimba Ani. You will gain a wealth of understanding of the behavioral apparatus of Eurasians after reading this book. This is a must read for Africans and descendants of African people.

Finally - A Close Analysis of the Dominator
By SiSTAR Cherry
Dr. Ani's book has opened the portal to an innerstanding of behaviors I witnessed that baffled me. This is a must read! In fact, this is a perfect book to be studied and analyzed by a group of people searching for answers. Just be sure to allow yourself time to carefully absorb the in-depth information, and have a dictionary nearby. As a melanin-rich woman, I now accept the witnessed behavior as innate.

Brilliant. Plato [and Europe] deservedly deconstructed
By Ronald West
I immensely admire Marimba Ani's work.

Criticism I would offer is, and it is not so much criticism as differing perspective from the ancient Native American modality, she missed the Native American when mentioned in her references in the larger picture. This is not to be unexpected as her frame of reference is not primarily grounded in this culture. There is little blame I would assign in this regard, as many or most of today's Native Americans have weak grasp of what had existed as recently as two hundred years ago in relation to their own culture and this is true of many 'spiritual' Native Americans as well, in fact true of nearly the entirety of those not fluent in their language and oral traditions and even many of these latter are 'weak' in regards to understanding what had been only recently their own cultural phenomena.

Particularly I forgive her because the present Native American 'weak' state closely resembles what she describes as African and compares well, so in the paradox of things, although having missed underlying roots, she is correct in her assessment based on the contemporary information available to her.

I will draw the picture like this:

From an ancient Amerind perspective, we could see the Greek gods overthrow of the Titans as marking the rise of hierarchy. This was departure from consciousness integrated to nature and birth of ego. It might seem here I am giving a bit of credence to some of the Euro-centric theorists Ani is critical of, but I'm not. I am in no sense suggesting this phenomena precluded awareness of self in sense of individuation, only individuation in a different sense from ego.

If the overthrow of the Titans marks in mythology the origins of ego as separated from nature in relation to hierarchy and rise of civilization, which necessarily is the case when organizing agriculture on which to base a state, in this case many Native peoples in the Americas had been 'pre-overthrow' mentality to recent times and in fact arguably the most important deity common to diverse Native American peoples is the 'trickster' who would best be described as 'the ego buster.' The native personality is best described as an ethical persona, sans any sense of individual self importance.

In some northern tribes view or oral history, Oral Historian of the Blackfeet Floyd Heavyrunner is clear in this, the Meso-American cultures were deviant civilizations, based on their collective behavior in relation to reality, ancient native reality being a nature based clock in which humans are but one integral and [ideally] functional part. The ancient Chinese civilization, or for that matter, the Egyptian civilization would have been perceived in the same negative light. Although there were [co-opted] aspects of nature integrated awareness or consciousness in these civilizations, in fact the hierarchy points to a 'post Titan' or ego consciousness and deviation as would have been defined embodied in ego, not altogether different but with radical differences to the `objective' hierarchy insisted on by Plato. They share a ruling class of autocrats [with the difference the non-European civilizations continuing to acknowledge some sense of natural order in the artificial state they'd created]

'Spiritual' is not in any sense of religious awe in the ancient Native American thought but rather a term disfigured in translation from one culture's paradigm to another cultures understanding at the meta-level .. any sense of 'spiritual' in [the non-hierarchal tribes of] Native America would be better translated 'ethical' as in ethical relationships to all things in nature to which [ideally] we are but one functional part.

My sense is, Native America having been mostly separated [one can surmise whether Meso-American had been influenced or inspired by trans-atlantic contact, Amerinds have their own stories of other peoples and lands] for 40,000 years [according to linguistics and genetics] from much of the rest of the world, the main understanding of North American peoples must have more resembled the pre-Greek gods world of the Titans, in which case Africa has felt a longer or greater influence relating to hierarchy more resembling the modern Native American understanding, a sort of 'hybrid' mentality where nature has not been lost altogether but in which the pure pre-ego state of integration no longer exists either.

When all is said and done, Marimba Ani nails Plato [and Europe] brilliantly and her observation western anthropology is anti-African is absolutely germane to Native America as well. Now that Genetics has backed linguistics pointing to a 40,000 year timeline of Native Americans largely separated from both Europe and Asia, western anthropology, rather than learn how to `listen' to the native `voice' [oral histories] and admit their 15,000 years theory of the Americas population had been wrong, has quickly indulged itself in the fantasy of Native Americans trapped roughly 20,000 years in a hypothesized `Beringia' .. which is likely as accurate as any new age belief in `Mu'

I wish I could give this book ten stars ***** + *****
